On Tuesday 23 January, clergy of the Diocese of Glasgow & Galloway gathered at St Ninian’s Scottish Episcopal Church, Prestwick, to study the Gospel of Mark. The Rev Canon Prof David Jasper started the day with an introduction to the Gospel, stressing the messianic mystery. The Rev Dr Anna-Claar Thomasson-Rosingh then spoke about the different contexts in which we read Mark and explored both how our context and how the scriptural context influences our understanding of the ‘Metamorphosis’ (Mark 9:2-10). After a wonderful lunch, David continued with a session on a literary reading of Mark explaining how poetic Mark is. Anna-Claar finished the day with an exploration of the story of the Syrophoenician woman (Mark 7:24-30) from the context of Dungavel immigration removal centre.
