Lay Readership at SEI

The weekend around the Second Sunday after Epiphany (17 to 19 January) saw the Scottish Episcopal Institute’s third residential weekend of the academic year 2024–25.

The weekend took place at St Mary’s Monastery, Kinnoull, Perth, with a presentation on Friday evening entitled ‘The Vocation of the Lay Reader’ by Mr Alan Baker, Warden of Lay Readers in the Diocese of Edinburgh. Alan also presided & preached at Saturday’s Midday Prayer.

The Rev Liz Crumlish, SEI’s IME2 Officer and Priest-in-Charge of St Oswald’s, Maybole, presided & preached at Sunday’s Holy Eucharist according to the Scottish Liturgy (1982/2022).

There were seminars on Theological Reflection & Reflective Practice, one each for students in their first, second and third years of formation on Saturday; and lectures on Saturday and Sunday to all students on the Creeds & Councils of the undivided Christian Church in the first five centuries to align with the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea in 325.

Please keep our students and staff in your prayers in Epiphanytide as they prepare to be ministers in Christ’s Church.
