SEI at General Synod

The General Synod of the Scottish Episcopal Church was held at St Paul’s & St George’s Episcopal Church, Edinburgh, Thursday 5 June through Saturday 7 June 2025. The General Synod is the SEC’s legislative and deliberative body, composed of clergy and laity from the seven dioceses of the SEC. The Synod meets annually to discuss and vote on a range of matters. The Synod considers the SEC’s mission and ministry across the Province of Scotland.

The SEC’s College of Bishops and Standing Committee are in the process of developing a Provincial Strategy to create clear priorities for the Scottish Episcopal Church going forward. A key part of that strategy includes the Scottish Episcopal Institute because SEI has the remit not only for forming people for ministry but also of lay learning and the continuing education of all the baptised in their discipleship.

A key moment in the General Synod was the appointment of the Rt Rev Andrew Swift as Convener of the Scottish Episcopal Institute Council, SEI’s governing board. Please keep Bishop Andrew and all the students and staff of SEI in your prayers as we pray and work under Bishop Andrew’s convenorship.
