The Rev Dr Stephen Mark Holmes has been appointed Provost of St Ninian’s Cathedral, Perth, succeeding the Very Revd Hunter Farquharson who retired in July 2023.
Stephen is an Associate Tutor at SEI having offered modules in the Denominational History and Principles of the Scottish Episcopal Church on the graduate level, and Liturgical Theology on the postgraduate level. He is also a Training Incumbent and a Placement Supervisor, taking a leading role in the forming ordinands as well as teaching them, in addition to his responsibilities as Rector of Holy Cross, Davidson’s Mains, and St Salvador’s, Stenhouse, in the Diocese of Edinburgh.
Stephen writes, ‘I am delighted to be appointed as Provost of St Ninian’s Cathedral and look forward to moving to Perth with my family and getting to know the congregation, city and diocese. We have received a great welcome at St Ninian’s on past visits to Perthshire and I look forward to working with the Vestry and Bishop Ian to develop the Cathedral’s unique heritage as a centre of Christian mission and culture.’
Stephen will offer an online, four-part Advent Series in 2024 around the theme of ‘creation theology’.
