SEI and Iona

On Saturday 24 May 2025, the Iona Regional Plenary met at St Ninian’s Episcopal Church, Troon. The broad theme of their meeting was ‘Welcoming the Stranger.’ The Rev Dr Anna-Claar Thomasson-Rosingh, SEI’s Director of Studies, addressed the topic of immigration detention.

As a former chaplain at the Dungavel Immigration Removal Centre, Scotland’s only immigration detention centre, and as a volunteer and supporter of Scottish Detainee Visitors, Dr Thomasson-Rosingh talked about the wider picture of detention in the UK: the figures for the year ending in March 2025 and the practices and implications of immigration detention. She also spoke of the particular context of Scotland and Dungavel, and she shared vignettes of her experiences. She closed with a call to action.
