Board of Examiners 2023

SEI’s Board of Examiners met on Tuesday 1 August 2023 via Zoom to consider the progression of its students and to make recommendations for awards to the Durham University (Overarching) Board of Examiners. The Exam Board crystalises the academic year by carefully reviewing SEI’s teaching and learning in detail.

Like the other 17 theological education institutions in the Common Awards scheme, SEI operates its own Board of Examiners, in line with guidance issued by Durham University. Dr Alistair Mason (shown above), one of SEI’s long-serving Associate Tutors, Chairs the Board of Examiners and, therefore, each of its meetings. Dr Andrew Boakye (shown below), Lecturer in Religions and Theology, University of Manchester, is SEI’s External Examiner, having been appointed by Durham. External Examiners offer informed, independent and impartial judgements about the appropriateness and comparability of the standards of awards. Professor Mike Higton, Professor in Theology and Ministry and Academic Lead in the Common Awards Team, is Durham University’s Liaison Officer.

The Board’s meeting was a convivial and encouraging gathering wherein SEI’s students’ academic diligence shone brightly! SEI is honoured to recommend the progression of 20 students to continue their studies and to recommend awards for 7 students as they complete their studies.

There were smiles across the screen as the meeting proceeded, not only from Dr Mason, Dr Boakye and Prof. Higton, but also from SEI’s Internal Examiners, Revd Katrin Bosse, Dr Alasdair Coles, Dr John Davies, Dr Michael Hull and Dr Richard Tiplady, and, of course, from the Board’s Secretary, Mrs Linda Harrison, who ably organised the meeting.

Please keep SEI’s students in your prayers as some continue and some complete their theological studies with the aim of sharing their wisdom and learning with their sisters and brothers in Christ Jesus!
