Reverend Canon Professor Michael Hull has left the Scottish Episcopal Institute (SEI) from April 2026 to pursue new avenues of theological education beyond ministerial formation. He served SEI for nine years as Director of Studies and three years as Principal. We are grateful for his ministry that was marked by warm cheerfulness and deep humility.
Prof. Hull writes: “I have very much enjoyed a happy and fruitful ministry at SEI. SEI has been and is blessed with an excellent staff team and dedicated students with whom it has been a privilege to share my call to theological education for almost a dozen years. I look forward to the prospect of renewing my vocation in the future through prayer, study and writing. I extend my best wishes to SEI and its forthcoming transition in leadership. Please pray for SEI and for me.”
Rt Rev Andrew Swift, Convenor of Institute Council, comments: “In his time at SEI, Mike initiated the Scottish Episcopal Journal, the annual Advent and Lenten series and the Pantonian Lecture series; he developed a broad range of academic qualifications to the post-graduate level with Common Awards, strengthened the lay-learning offerings and inaugurated the ‘SEI Roadshow’ to travel around the Province to promote SEI.”
The Rev Dr Anna-Claar Thomasson-Rosingh, Acting Principal, says: “Mike has been such a cheerful companion in the two years that I have worked with him. He is a good colleague, and I am grieving his going. I especially appreciated being able to model working with diversity, as we were so different.”
As SEI will start looking for another Principal, we pray:
Prevent us, O Lord, in all our doings with thy most gracious favour, and further us with thy continual help; that in all our works begun, continued, and ended in thee, we may glorify thy holy Name, and finally by thy mercy obtain everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
